Major Taylor was an early pioneer of the bicycle, officially inaugurated to the sport at the 1901 Pan-American Exhibition in Buffalo, New York. The first black professional race cyclist in the U.S., Taylor won the world championship five times between 1901 and 1909. He served as president of the National Professional Cycling Association (1909–10) and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame (1995) for his efforts as a rodeo cowboy.
